Zucchini Bites, made from zucchini (courgette), cheese, eggs and oats are delicious hot or cold. A perfect lunchbox item or snack for toddlers.

Why These are Great for Kids
- A balanced snack – this simple snack contains veggies, carbs, protein and dairy to keep little tummies satisfied.
- Vegetable Exposure – children often need to be exposed to vegetables a number of times before they start to enjoy them. If your child is still learning to like zucchini, this may be a good way of serving it.
- Easy to Make – There are so many benefits to getting your kids involved in the kitchen, this recipe is perfect for little ones as it has few steps and is easy to make.
- Great Hot or Cold – meaning they are perfect for taking out and about for snacks/lunchboxes.
What You Need

- Grated Zucchini
- Grated Cheese – a good melting cheese such as cheddar or mozzarella works well (or a mix).
- Oat Flour – (blend oats in a food processor/blender until flour consistency) You can replace with all-purpose if you prefer.
- Eggs
How to Make
- REMOVE EXCESS LIQUID FROM ZUCCHINIS – To ensure these zucchini bites work, it is important to squeeze the water out of the zucchini. Skip this step and the mixture will be too wet. Place the grated zucchini onto a clean cloth and squeeze. Get your kids to help with this, they will love it!
- MIX – Once the juice has been squeezed out of the zucchinis, mix it together with the remaining ingredients.
- FORM – Make balls, around 1/2 tbsp in size. On a prepared baking sheet, flatten each ball into rounds approx 1/2 cm thick / 1/4 inch. If you make them too thick they won’t cook the same and with have more of an omelette / soft doughy like texture.
- BAKE – Until for around 13-15 mins, until browned and crispy on the outside.

Fussy Eater Tip
- If your kids don’t like seeing “green bits” in their food, peel the zucchinis before grating.
Storage Instructions
- REFRIGERATE: Store in an airtight container for up to 2 days. Note: The bites will soften in texture when cold
- FREEZE: Allow to cool and freeze on a baking sheet. Once hard transfer the bites to an airtight container or ziplock bag and freeze for up to 2 months

These are great as a canapé with drinks, very moorish too.
Thankyou.
Amy says
Love this! Thanks Felicity!
LA says
I have made this recipe more than any other recipe, ever. Both my kids have loved this from when they were 7/8 months old and my eldest still loves them at 5 years. They enjoy them hot out of the oven or even cold in their lunchbox.
Amy says
Fantastic, thank you 🙂
Lydia says
Hi, thanks for the yummy recipe. My little one enjoyed eating these the first day. However I noticed the next day the texture changed, they were more chewy. Is that normal and how would you recommend reheating them?
Thanks
Amy says
Hi Lydia, I’m sorry for the late response, your message got filtered to junk. I would re-heat in a microwave or your could re heat in a frying pan with a drop of oil to help crisp it up again.
Laura says
Would this recipe work with other veg?
I’m thinking carrots or sweet potato
Amy says
Hi Lara, yes it works with other vegetables too. Here is the link to my carrot version. Carrot Star Bites
Dina El Sebai says
My one year old twins who are picky eaters loved this one so much! They are so hard to please and finally they loved a healthy snack. I even started to add grated carrots with the zucchini as well. Thanks a million
I tried it in an oven toaster and it worked well
Amy says
Thank you, Dina!
Christy says
Will this work on an oven toaster?
Amy says
Hi Christy, I’m not sure to be honest. I have never used / owned a oven toaster.
Maria says
We loved this recipe. Another alternative for a healthy snack. Thanks Amy.
Amy says
Fantastic, thanks Maria 🙂

Andrew says
10/10 great little lunch box snack. My 2 year old ate them in no time. Now I am making them more often just so I can have some.
Amy says
Thanks Andrew! I’m so happy your little one approves and that you like them too!
Nes says
I just made this recipe without any changes and it tastes good. But it was so stuck to the parchment paper….my kids had to just scrape it out with spoons!
Amy says
Hi Nes, thanks for the feedback. I’m so happy you enjoyed the taste. I’ve never had a problem with them sticking to the parchment paper – I wonder if another brand would work or maybe just try adding to a well-greased tray. Amy 🙂
Mercedes Pintos says
Easy, quick and really tasty! My daughter loved them!!!!
Amy says
Thanks Mercedes 🙂
Maddie says
Hi, just made these for my 9 month old. They are great. Have you tried freezing these?
Amy says
Thanks Maddie, I’m glad you like them. I have frozen these with no issues 🙂
Bec says
Just wondering if there is a substitute for the cheese as my bub is dairy free
Amy says
Hi Bec, to be honest, I’m not sure how these would work out without the cheese. It could work but I’d say it would need some herbs for flavour.
Meiggidh says
Really quick and easy. They taste delcious for adults too! Thank you for the recipe, I’m excited to try out the other recipes and ideas you have!
Amy says
Thanks Meiggidh, so glad you enjoyed them and hopefully you find many other recipes to enjoy 🙂
Paul Latham says
This was simple and easy to make, really enjoyed the whole process, I made 12 instead of 20 and they came out juicy but really tasty. Great idea and loved by the wife, tomorrow I give them to my 20 month old. I know it will be a winner!!
Amy says
Great! Thanks Paul. I’m glad your wife approved, fingers crossed for your little one!
Tamika says
What other flours could I use?
Amy says
Hi Tamika, others have used all-purpose flour with success. I haven’t tried any other flours so can’t say how they would work, sorry. 🙂
Shannon says
I loved this recipe! Had two giant zucchinis to use up so after the first patch was such a success, I made a second. My 10 month old baby really liked the bites as finger food, but more surprisingly my picky husband loved them too! He kept saying “I’ll just have another one” which is something I never hear! Thanks for the recipe! This is going to become a favourite for sure.
Amy says
Great to hear, Shannon, and thanks for the 5 star rating! I’m delighted that they are picky husband approved!
Nisha says
Can we use a chia egg instead ?
Amy says
Hi Nisha, I haven’t tested chia egg in this recipe so can’t guarantee how it would turn out, sorry.
Mel says
Could you add grated carrot with the courgette in these?!
Amy says
Ok super excited for the spinach Christmas tree version!
These are amazing and my son and I both love them. My mixture seems to be very wet even with drying the zucchini but they still turn out delicious. Wondering if you use regular oats or quick oats when you make your oat flour? Thinking that might be why mine is different.
Amy says
Hi Amy, thanks for your comment and I’m delighted that both you and your son liked them. I used regular oats to make the flour, you could add a little more oats to soak up any extra moisture.
Abi says
Can u suggest some substitute for eggs ?
Amy says
I have never tried egg substitutes in this recipe but I think a chia egg could work well.
Christiane says
First Time my girl actually liked something with Zucchini in it! Thank you!!!
Amy says
Fantastic, this has made my day! So glad they were a hit!
Cindy says
I made these today and they are very yummy. In order to extract the pulp for the mix i ran the veggies through my juicer. (And got some juice to drink). I made a double batch with 4 eggs and 1/2 cup oat flour, and about 1cup of cheese. I then used about about 1c. zucchini and 1/2 c. carrot pulp. My baking time was doubled in order to get them to crisp up, like a cracker texture. The end result is great. Will certainly make these again.
Amy says
Hi Cindy, so glad you liked them even if you did have to cook for longer. I need to get myself a juicer!
Michelle says
I did these with half chick pea flour half coconut flour. Only 1 egg. Turned out great.
Amy says
Brilliant, thanks for your feedback. I’m always getting asked for which flour alternatives work so it is always good to know.
josie says
I made today I see what you mean about dry zucchini they came out very good but I notice you used oat flour, I used quick oats they came out good. Is there a difference.
Amy says
Thanks Josie. I just grind oats to make oat flour, did you grind your quick oats? If so i’d say it would be the same. If not, I presume you just had more texture in the bites.
Debbie Pinto says
Amazing!!!!!! Loved them!!!!!! Great recipe as always Amy!!!
Amy says
Thanks Debbie! So pleased ??
Karen says
Hi! This recipe really looka good! Am gg to try it for my boy. Can i replace cheddar with Parmasean cheese since i only have tbis in tje fridge. Thanks!!
Amy says
Hi Karen, I am so sorry, I have just noticed your comment. I haven’t tried parmesan myself, you wouldn’t need as much and I’m sure they would stay together ok. Did you try it?
Whitney says
Will these work with egg yolks only? I had a sever egg allergy as a child (whites more than yolks) so I’m being super careful with my LO and introducing egg slowly.
Amy says
Hi Whitney, I haven’t tried it without the egg but I would maybe try adding three yolks for each egg. It will be lacking the protein from the egg white which may effect the structure a little. I can’t say for sure, however, without trying.
Vanessa says
Such an easy, tasty veggie recipe. My fussy little one ate several of these in a single sitting, which is an achievement in our home. Thanks for the great recipes!
Amy says
Brilliant, glad they were a hit with your little one! Thanks for taking the time to let me know
TMCook123 says
I’ve rated this 4 stars since I haven’t yet made it and they look nice. One question, was wondering whether this would work using cooked or uncooked frozen baby spinach and, if so, how much? Has anyone tried it? TIA
Amy says
It’s funny that you ask this as I just made some with spinach. I made little Christmas tree shapes for the boys. I should be posting the recipe soon. I used 200g of frozen spinach and squeezed out as much water as possible before mixing with the other ingredients. If using fresh I’d blanch / steam before hand and then squeeze out the water. I have also got a carrot version on the blog too.
Cristina Tiron says
Hi Amy,
Love trying out your recipes on my 1 year old.
I was just wondering if you get rid of the skin of the zucchinis. It doesn’t look like it from the pics but I just wanted to double-check. Thanks!
Amy says
Thanks Cristina, I just grated the zucchini without peeling. All went in! Hope you enjoy x
Fiona O'Neill says
I made these today for the first time and they were absolutely delicious. My 9 month old girl LOVED them and ate 7 in one sitting plus other pieces of fruit and veg. I think she’d have eaten more if I’d taken more out with us! Thanks. I look forward to trying more of your recipes X
Amy says
Hi Fiona, So glas your little girl loved these and thanks for taking the time to tell me. Hope she enjoys the other recipes ?
KATIE says
What’s the best way to store these zucchini bites, room temp in a tub or refrigerated?
Amy says
Hi Katie, I’d refrigerate them 🙂
Courtney says
Just made these for my toddler and I know she will love them. Thanks for the recipe!
Jordana says
I make something nearly identical with almond flour in place of oat flour! I do freeze them and defrost 1 at a time for my baby. She loves them. Thank you for the recipes!
Amy says
Hi Jordana, thanks for the feedback. I will need to try them with almond flour – sounds good! Thanks for the freezing info too 🙂
Mira | FoodSmartMom says
Oh my gosh! I have to try these asap! I grew up eating fried zucchini rounds but I haven’t made them for my little man because I avoid fry foods now. I never thought of baking them!
Amy says
Thanks Mira, I hope you enjoy! Please let me know!
Catherine says
Hi.. Can i use plain flour ? Ive never even seen oat flour? Thnaks ps FAB site
Amy says
Hi Catherine, I just blitz some oats in a high speed blender to make oat flour. I’m sure plain flour will work well, I’ve never tried it but a reader said they did and it worked well. Hope you enjoy and so glad you like the site 🙂
Zoe says
These sounds gorgeous. Are they freezable?
Thanks.
Amy says
Hi Zoe, I haven’t tried freezing them – sorry. I think they would freeze well though.
Vikki says
Hi Zoe, just wondered if you did freeze them and how they turned out? Thanks
Brigid Zemaitis says
Zoe and Vikki- if you still haven’t tried it, I do freeze these and they are just fine! They don’t microwave super evenly from frozen, but if you thaw overnight in the refrigerator that works best. Or if I forget to do that, I’ll microwave for about 20 seconds, break off the hot edges, and put the (still frozen) center back in for another 15-20
Amy says
Thanks for the tips, Brigid!
Debbie Vanderputt says
Off to the shops to pick up some courgette – my daughter will love these! Good luck with the move, it sounds amazing 🙂
Amy says
Thanks Debbie! I hope your daughter liked them?!

Amy says
