This Kiwi Christmas Tree is a healthy festive snack for kids. It is great for getting kids involved in the kitchen.
During the holiday period, it can be very hard to avoid all the Christmas junk food circulating around. This is why I feel it is worth making the effort to make healthy food fun at this time.
I'm not normally a "fun food" mum but my boys absolutely love it when I do make the effort. It is amazing how delighted they are when I serve pretty much the same snack, just in a fun way.
Reasons to Love this Snack
- Fun - Anything Christmas related is fun for kids, right?!
- Easy - It really doesn't take too much extra effort to make this snack.
- Healthy - Kiwi fruits are a great source of folic acid, vitamin C and vitamin E. They are a good source of fibre, helping to keep the digestion systems running well. To make it a more complete snack, why not try serving it with a dip like a peanut butter dip or with cubes of cheese as presents under the tree.
What you Need
- Kiwi, including the skin
- Another fruit for the star. I have used watermelon but apple, pear, banana or other melon varieties would also work
- Star cookie cutter (or good cutting skills)
- Knife
How to Make a Kiwi Christmas Tree
- Peel the kiwi carefully, reserving the skin.
- Cut the kiwi into round slices
- Cut each slice in half
- Arrange the slices into a tree shape by placing two slices back to back on the plate. The straight, cut edge, should be facing out. Repeat underneath with another two slices and then again with the final two slices.
- Cut out a "pot" for the tree using the kiwi peel and place at the base of the tree.
- Cut out a star shape, using a star cookie cutter from a slice of fruit. (e.g slice of melon, apple, pear etc)
Simple. Quick. Delicious. Fun. Healthy.
