Pear Rudolph - when a pear undergoes a Christmas makeover!
Pear Rudolph is a quick, healthy and fun Christmas snack. I am not normally creative when it comes to food as, luckily, I don't find my children need their food turned into fun creations. However, I do think we eat with our eyes and just as many adults love beautifully presented food in restaurants, many kids love fun food creations.
With so much candy around in the holiday season, I wanted to show that healthy food can be fun too.
What You Need
- 1 pear - Chose your favourite variety. You want one that is wide at the bottom and goes narrower at the top.
- 1 large raspberry - you need one big enough to fit on top of the tip of the pear.
- 2 blueberries - used for the eyes.
- 1 carrot - Cut into thin slices, lengthways, to be able to carve the antlers
How to Make a Pear Rudolph
This pear Rudolph is so simple to create!
- Slice the tip of the pear off and add a raspberry to represent Rudolph's nose.
- Using a sharp paring knife, carve two small holes towards the thicker end of the pear for the eyes. Place the blueberries in the holes. You may need to go back and forth at this stage to get the holes big enough for the blueberries to fit. Take your time to get the correct sized holes.
- Peel the carrot and slice, lengthways, to make strips (around 3mm (⅛th inch)) thick. Using a sharp paring knife, cut two antler shapes from the strips.
- Using a shape knife, carve two small holes, just behind the eyes, and fit the antler in.
