These mini blender muffins are perfect for little hands. Great for babies and toddlers or to pack into lunch boxes.

One of the most popular recipes on Healthy Little Foodies is my Fruity Oat Breakfast Bites. They are easy to make, perfect as a handheld breakfast and great to pop into lunch boxes. Mini Blender Muffins are a similar idea but have blended oats to give a smoother, more muffin-like texture.

Muffins like these are perfect for getting kids involved in the kitchen. It is an easy recipe but has plenty for young kids to do. My youngest, Rory (2), loved peeling and breaking the banana, measuring the ingredients, tipping them into the blender, cracking the egg, switching on the blender and, of course, sampling the dates.
Above is a picture of him getting a little impatient as I try to photograph the muffins. He was eagerly pointing to each muffin in turn and saying "Rory's, Mummy's, Rory's, Mummy's, Rory's....)

Please note, this recipe only fills half a mini muffin tray. This is because it was all my blender will hold. I usually make two batches to fill a tray. If you have a large blender you may want to double the recipe.

Helen
I've just made these for my 6 month old as an alternative to just flavoured porridge, they look and taste amazing, shes currently a sleep but her brother is eyeing them up... my muffins are slighly sticky in the middle but only where i have put the fruit on top so assume these are ok to eat? Also you have inspired me to make lots more homemade food as i dont want my second child to be as fussy as the first! Currently looking at the porridge fingers and homemade fish finger recipes
Amy
Hi Helen, Thank you! I'm so glad that you enjoyed this recipe and are looking to try some others. It is probably the fruit that is making them slightly sticky but if you are more comfortable cooking them for longer then just do that. I hope you have success with the other recipes too and that your kids love them!
Gem
Apple puree worked a treat- thanks. Don’t have a mini muffin tray so used a regular one (only made 6) will definitely double up next time! Sliced them and froze them so they’re perfect portions for little hands! X
Amy
Thanks Gem, thanks so much for letting me know. I'm often asked for dairy substitutes so it is always good to know what works well on not in my recipes.
Rosie
How much Apple purée did you use an and did add all the other ingredients in exactly the same quantities?
Gem
Hi Amy, it’s me again! To make this dairy free what would you suggest trying to replace the yoghurt with.... apple puree?
Thanks!
Gem
Amy
Hi Gem, I'd try apple puree or coconut yoghurt but without trying I can't guarantee the results.
Amy
Hi Amy,
What kind of oats work best for this recipe? I have quick oats handy, would they work?
Also, I’ve never cooked with dates before so I just picked up ‘cooking dates’, does that sound right? Thanks in advance!
Amy
Hi Amy, I have never tried quick oats in this recipe but as I blend the oats I think they would work well. I used fresh dates as they are easier to blend. I'm not sure what "cooking dates" are but if they are pretty dry you might want to soak them in hot water for a couple of minutes to soften them and make them easier to blend. Enjoy!
SOUMYA
Hello Amy, am going to try your recipe. Do you have a substitute for egg. MY Younger One Is ALLERGIC To eggs. Thank you SK
Amy
Hi Soumya, I haven't tried any egg replacements in this recipe but I think a chia egg would work well. Please do let me know if you try it and if it works. Fingers Crossed!
Bethany
Hi. Could you substitute the dates for prunes, and if so how many/much would you recommend?
Amy
Hi Bethany, the dates are there for sweetness so you can easily replace them with prunes. The flavour profile will be different and they won't be as sweet but they will work.
Nihan
Hello Amy
This looks like a wonderful recipe. DO you think I could use an overripe banana for this? Thank you
Amy
Hi Nihan,
Yes, I prefer overripe bananas in this recipe. Enjoy!
Ghida
Can we freeze them for later use? And how woild we defrost them then?
Thanks! Looking forward to try them
Amy
Hi Ghida. Yes you can freeze them. I usually freeze them and pop them into my son's lunch box still frozen. You could alternatively take them out the night before and store in the fridge or defrost them in the microwave.
Meredith
We have all the ingredients except the dates - any substitution recommendations?
Amy
Hi Meredith, I added the dates for sweetness so you could maybe add a little honey or maple syrup instead.
Keira Morgan
Just wanted to add that you should not make them with honey if the muffins are for babes under a year old. 🙂
Amy
Thanks, Keira. Yes, def no honey before one 🙂
Tammy
This is the best blender muffin recipe I've tried. For variations we've made with applesauce and cinnamon, spinach and a dash of cinnamon, peach, the flavour possibilities are endless! They are yum yum and not adults and kids gobble them up. Thanks for all your fantastic and easy recipes 🙂
Tammy
sorry both adults and kids love them.... oops membrane typo...
Amy
Thanks Tammy! I love that you have enjoyed this recipe and really like the sound of your variations, ones that I will be trying ?? Thanks for taking the time to give me feedback, I really do appreciate it ??
Kiera
These look amazing, I am going to try them for my 11 month old. How long do they keep in an airtight container? Thanks!
Amy
Thanks Kiera, They never last that long in our house so I can't say for sure, sorry! I usually freeze any leftovers and take out when needed.
Annie
Hi Amy, I'd like to try this recipe for my 8-month old baby. I'm just wondering if I can use only egg yolk for this recipe as my baby hasn't had the egg white yet. Thanks,
Amy
Hi Annie,
As I haven't tried it myself, I can't say for sure. You would probably have to use 2 yolks and the end result may be a little denser. Let me know if you try it, I'd love to know how it works out.
Amy
Debbie Pinto
Amy you're a star! This was the first recipe of yours that I've tried. And it smells and tastes amazing. I didn't have a mini muffin tray, only a regular size one.
Are the muffins meant to be moist inside instead of kinda dry? I'm thinking they're moist due to the yogurt and banana and fresh dates but you're the pro, so let me know 🙂
Can't wait to try some more! My 11 month is going to love it and will def let you know how the muffin tasting went! Lots of love x
Amy
Hi Debbie,
They are quite moist, not light and fluffy like regular muffins. Mine aren't overly moist so if they are a little wet then I'd cook them a little longer. I haven't tried these in regular sized muffin pans to give oven times though. Thanks so much for your feedback and kind comments, I hope you enjoy some other recipes ??
Ashley
Hi! Wondering if you could use greek yogurt or if that would make the batter too thick? Thanks! 🙂
Amy
Hi Ashley, I have used greek yoghurt. The blender really thins down the yoghurt so it works great. Enjoy!
Laura
Hi Amy just wondering if you need fresh dates or are dried dates okay? Excited to try more of your recipes! Thanks
Amy
HI Laura, thank you, I find the fresh ones blend better. If they are dried I'd maybe let them sit in some boiling water for a min so they soften and blend easier. Enjoy!
Erica
Just wanted to let you know that I couldn't find fresh dates, so I put the dried dates in water and microwaved them for a few minutes to try and soak them a bit. The end result turned out yummy, so I think it worked 🙂 Next time though I will remove the seeds BEFORE microwaving or boiling as I ended up with the delicious sticky stuff all over my hands instead of in the blender! Also, the skin naturally was peeling off, so pulled off the bits that were falling off to avoid any tough bits not blending. My 13 month old just isn't into breakfast yet, but I ate like half of them so far! 😉
Amy
Thanks for the feedback Erica, I manage to eat a lot of these before the kids get to them too! I hope your 13 month enjoyed them too (if there were any left!)
Simona
Hi, I don’t have mini muffin tray, how long would I have to bake them in regular muffin size tray? Thank you and happy holidays! 🙂
Amy
Hi Erica, so sorry for the delay in getting back to you. It has been a crazy festive period and I have had a house full of guests! I'd say they would take around 18 mins. Use a tooth pick to check and if it comes out clean then they are ready.
Sarah
I ate most of these as I waited for them to cool down for my 18 month old! Woops! This is the first recipe I have tried of yours, will be trying more!
Amy
Ha ha! I'm not the only one then! Glad you enjoyed them, how did they go with your 20 month old or did she / he not get to try one in the end!!! ?
Emma
These are great, so quick and easy and a good snack for my 20 month old. Amy, I was wondering if you'd consider sharing some simple, child-friendly smoothie recipes?
Amy
Thanks Emma, so glad your 20 mth liked them. I have a couple of smoothies on my site...Spinach and Pear - https://www.healthylittlefoodies.com/spinach-pear-smoothie/ , Berries and Beetroot - https://www.healthylittlefoodies.com/beet-and-berries-smoothie/ Pink Smoothie Bowl -https://www.healthylittlefoodies.com/pink-smoothie-bowl/ and Green Smoothie - https://www.healthylittlefoodies.com/green-smoothie-for-kids/

Jasmine
This recipe looks lovely! I have some apples I need to use up - could I use them in this recipe instead of banana or would they be too juicy?
Amy
Hi Jasmine, Thank you! I haven't tried this with apple so can't really say for sure. I'd cook and puree the apple and then replace 1 banana with 1/2 cup apple puree. This is what I'd try but, again, I can't say for sure. Please do let me know if you try it!
