WHEN TO START..
6 months +
Able to sit up independently
Hold their head up
Younger babies (6-8 months) = food should be bigger than palm of hand
Older babies are able to pick up smaller pieces.
Too soft - can turn to mush when handled
Too hard - could be choking hazard.
Try keeping skin on for easy grip.
Don't be afraid to add spices and herbs.
Try different cooking methods (roasting, sautéing, steaming etc)
HOW MUCH TO OFFER?
Let your baby decide how much they want to eat. They will naturally manage their own intake and will stop eating when full.
Baby should be sitting upright.
Baby should self feed and not be "fed" finger foods
SOME FOODS SHOULD BE AVOIDED..
Small round fruits, hard foods, processed foods, whole nuts, popcorn, salt, honey to name a few.
